More than a camera on the beach.
You do not have to explain surfing to the photographer. Marc understands line choice, timing, body position, wave development and the moments surfers actually care about. For beginners, his lifeguard training and deep surf background add reassurance around the session. For advanced and professional surfers, it means the person behind the lens can anticipate what is coming before it happens.

From beginner to professional
The value is different at every level. Beginners get meaningful progression memories and the reassurance of being photographed by someone highly experienced around surf. Strong and professional surfers get a photographer who understands speed, line choice, critical sections and the difference between an ordinary frame and a moment worth keeping.
Lagos, Sagres and the western Algarve
Oceans Apprentice is Algarve-based and photographs surf across the western part of the region. Exact meeting location is agreed for the photography session and may depend on your own surf plans, access, weather and travel distance. We do not publish or market sensitive local surf spots.
Questions surfers ask
Shore or in-water photography?
Shore photography gives the broadest coverage and lets Marc track the whole session through a long lens. In-water photography creates more immersive angles, but is only used when surf, visibility and safety conditions are appropriate. Marc’s lifeguard training and surf experience inform those decisions.
Is this for beginners and professionals?
Yes. The service is designed for everyone from beginners documenting progression to advanced, sponsored and professional surfers who want strong images of performance.
Is this a surf lesson or surf guide?
No. Oceans Apprentice photographs your surf session. Marc is an internationally trained lifeguard, lifelong surfer and experienced surf coach, but lifeguard cover, surf instruction and paid surf guiding are not part of the current photography service in Portugal.
How many photos do I receive?
The goal is a strong curated gallery rather than a dump of near-duplicates. The exact number varies with conditions and the session type.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Surf photography is weather-dependent. Marc reads surf and weather conditions as part of planning the shoot. If the planned photography becomes impractical or unsafe, we will work with you to move or adapt the session where scheduling allows.
