Internationally trained lifeguard
Marc’s lifeguard training adds a disciplined awareness of water, risk and responsibility to the way he works around surf. It is part of the judgement he brings to photography, especially around changing conditions and in-water work. It does not mean the photography booking includes lifeguard cover, surf instruction or paid guiding, which Oceans Apprentice does not currently sell in Portugal.
A surfer and surf coach long before the camera became the business.
Marc’s surf experience stretches from the rough seas of Southern Africa and Morocco to the open Atlantic of Portugal. That matters because he understands what a surfer is trying to do, how a wave develops, where the critical section is likely to appear and which moments are worth anticipating through the lens.
Photographer
Photography is the current centre of the business: surf action, coastal people and places, and visual content for tourism and editorial clients. The difference is that Marc photographs surf with the understanding of someone who has spent a lifetime in it.
University degree in journalism
Marc’s university training in journalism adds another layer for commercial and editorial clients. He can interview, report, structure a story and write professional editorial copy, making him especially useful to destinations, publications and tourism businesses.
Why “Oceans Apprentice”?
The name reflects the idea that no matter how much time someone spends around the sea, there is always more to learn. That attitude fits the way Marc approaches surf, photography and stories: pay attention first.
